About the Author

Roy Slootheer never saw himself as a writer. He started his career as a financial planner in the Netherlands (where he was born), and was later recruited by a small financial planning firm in Des Moines, Iowa. He made the ‘big move’ to the States in 1995 and settled in Iowa where he met his late wife, Rebecca, in 1998.

They lived in the small town of Altoona, Iowa, a suburb of Des Moines. They had two boys and lived on a small acreage, when suddenly in 2012, their world was ripped apart when Rebecca was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer.

During the battle with cancer, Rebecca asked Roy to write their story. After a long, inevitable battle in 2013, she passed. Roy finally started his journey to write ‘their story’ in 2018. It took him two years to finish his heartbreaking story.

Roy published his first novel, Broken Glass, in 2020. During his quest to write ‘Broken Glass’, he fell in love with writing. He is currently working on two more books; The perpetual stage of Grieving to help others deal with the loss of a loved one, and a fictional novel as well.

He received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Ashford University in Iowa and both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Nursing from Graceland University in Iowa. Roy still works as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Oklahoma, where he currently resides.

Roy is a devoted philanthropist and is committed to donating to reputable organizations such as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the American Cancer Association, and Feed the Poor. A portion from all of his book sales will be gifted to these charitable organizations.

In 2015 Roy remarried and he and his wife live in Oklahoma with their three children.
